UIGEA
| |
|
The Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act (UIGEA) was resuscitated
last week in a last ditch effort by the Bush administration to implement this
flawed law before he leaves office in January.
President Bush pushed through "midnight" regulations
that require UIGEA to go into effect on January 19, 2009, one day before
President-elect Barak Obama is sworn in to office. One way that PPA members can
help effect change this coming year is by going to President-elect Barak Obama's
transition website and
submitting
comments
on the importance of undoing the UIGEA when he takes office and why he should seek to license and regulate Internet poker.
Please tell Mr. Obama: * That you're a proud poker player, a voter and want your rights protected. * To repeal UIGEA because prohibitions do not work, especially ones that put undue burden on the financial sector by deputizing banks to subvert the rights of adult Americans. * That the best way to protect children and families from any perceived harm from Internet Poker is by licensing and strict regulation; it will also generate billions in federal and state revenue. * That poker is a game of skill and not a game of chance, and as such should be protected.

My 5th Royal Flush

I have been playing poker since I
have been 13 years old, that is 40 years and as far as I can remember last
night I made my 5th Royal Flush and this won the was the meanest of
them all a Spade Royal Flush.
I was playing in a no-limit game and
was immediately left of a player who I was currently referring to in my mind as
Mr. Tilty as he had lost a few pots including the previous pot. He had
straddled and I limped with an As 10s . Several people called and the
flop came down as Js Qs 9h . I flopped a Royal Flush draw .. the
NUT straight could be made with any 8 or any K and a flush with any spade, and
I had an overcard to the board. I checked and a player in MP bet $50 into a $50
pot , MR. Tilty called the $50 and I check raised to $200 … The player
who opened for $50 in MP had approximately $500 total and he insta- pushed all
in. This scared MR. Tilty and he folded. I now counted the pot and there
was approx $600+ in the pot and $310 to call for me. I figured I had about a 50%
chance to make the winning hand and was getting 2 -1 to call so I made the
call. I turned the Royal Flush and found out my insta-pushing opponent had a Q
10 off suit less than a pushing hand in my opinion but top pair 10 kicker and and
an open end straight draw.
I win … my 5th Royal
Flush in my lifetime and the second time that I used 2 cards in my hand while
playing Holdem.

Strangest Situation at the Table

I was playing some poker at Caesar’s
this week and a strange thing happened.
I was sitting in Seat number 3 and I
was involved in a decent size pot. I had an experienced player setting in seat
number 1.
The player in seat number 1 had a
stacks of chips 30 or more high instead of the standard 20 high stack.
As the dealer was pushing me the
rather large pot (remember I was sitting in seat 3) the dealer’s elbow
hit seat number 1’s stack and knocked the chips into his lap and onto the
floor. The player in seat 1 was startled and as I was stacking up my win, the
player in seat number 1 started throwing chips into my pot. His chips into my
pot … It took him several seconds to realize that he was tossing his
chips into my pot and then he stopped. Nobody knew how many he threw so they
called the floor. They tried reconstructing the pot but that would not work
because I had already stacked a couple of stacks into my normal chip
configuration. The floor was stumped, I suggested they call the security
department and run the tape. Thirty minutes later the floor said security had freeze
framed between 12 and 16 chips and been tossed into my pile, but the casino
would be able to make an absolute number. We split the difference and I gave
them back to the player in seat 1.

Hurricane IKE and Hurricane Gustov --- Natural Disasters One after the Next

Today I spent time watching CNN and ”Hurricane
IKE” has caused serious havoc for literally millions of Americans who
live in single family homes, condos and/or apartments. When a serious
catastrophe happens and people are forced to flee their homes, I feel for them,
I really do. Eventually they can come back to face the devastation, but wow it
is a live changing experience. “Experience is what you get, when you don’t
get what you want!” With a motor home you have everything you need to
leave the dangerous areas and stay gone until the mayhem is over. Heck stay
gone for a long while, me and Janice are lucky in this way. If a natural disaster
were to happen where I am currently located, I can pick up and leave quickly
taking nearly everything with me.
A motor home has more disadvantages than just not
having 5000 square feet or floor space to get lost in. Well this has been a
busy week. As you may already know, me, Janice, and our two dogs Charlie and
Katie are in Las Vegas and we are staying in a motor home. Well maintenance
is a never ending task and this week turned into motor home maintenance week.
There is a great deal of satisfaction in doing things right, but it is still
work.
I always start the motor home every 10 days or so and
run the diesel engine for 30 minutes. While it idles I cycle the transmission
through the gears and in and out of reverse. I also run the Air/hydraulic
leveling system by raising all the hydraulic jacks and airing up the air bags
which make up the air ride suspension.
The motor home is a 2004 model and earlier this year I
had to replace eight deep cycle batteries which are used by the UPS/Inverter
systems to provide 110 volt power when no shore power is present. Now it was
time to replace the two 12 volt 950 Cold Crank Amp heavy duty batteries that
operate the starter, headlights, hydraulic jacks etc. So earlier this week I
took out the two batteries and went to Interstate Batteries and obtained
replacements $350… did I say heavy duty… That burned up 4 and ½
hours.
Janice spent a couple of days cleaning the inside and
putting some stuff away in preparation of taking the motor home out for a ride.
We removed the outside windshield and side window covers and cleaned them.
We removed the wheel covers which protect the tires
from the rays of the sun which can dry rot tires really quickly in the hot Las
Vegas sun.
On Thursday afternoon we put in the 4 slide-outs,
raised the jacks, disconnected the water, sewer and electric, put down the high
definition satellite dish and got ready to leave.
We went to the Speedco center in North Las Vegas and
had an oil change, and lube job … $200 … It does take 42 quarts of
oil. The guys at Speedco also checked the air in all 10 tires and set them to
120 lbs. That is the maximum recommended tire pressure and will give the best
fuel mileage. They checked tread depth and said they looked like nearly new
tread level, even though the motor home has 35000 miles on the tires. That may
have something to do with the fact that I forced the dealer to have a 10 wheel
alignment done by the best company in town before I would take delivery. We
then went to the Shell station which had diesel fuel for $3.97 which was 17
cents less expensive than the TA truck stop. Go figure … and the fuel in North
Las Vegas is about 10 cents per gallon less expensive than just south of the
strip. Fuel Cost to top off the tanks $402.63Â
The motor home drove great and everything was
appearing to go smooth. We got back to where we stay and backed in perfect
… Then SNAFU ,,, when we plugged back into the shore power we got a
beeping noise and a warning light in the electrical bay which said FAULT. When
I rotated the TDI Products Model RV5036 Shore Reel the FAULT light flicker out
but only a couple times and would not stay off. Day light was fading and it was
apparent that I was not going to get it fixed before nightfall so I gave up
till Saturday.
Problem was we only had 1 leg of the 240 volt 50 amp
service so we had only 110 volts on one leg of the 110v main. Â We could get
full power running the diesel generator but at the cost of diesel fuel today, I
try to avoid it. Problem was only 1 out of the 3 AC units had power without it.
Just before bed we started the generator and cooled down the motor home real
well as we love to sleep in a cool room 62 degrees and under the warm covers.
I researched the Shore Reel on the internet and found
an installation manual but not maintenance manual. Now back when I was 13 years
old I ran a ferris wheel at carnivals… Ever wonder how the lights on the
edge of the ferris wheel go round and round with out the cable wrapping around
the wheel and eventually pulling itself loose? Brass Rings carry the power and
brass brushes pushed by springs make a moving connection. I had a feeling that
one of the brushes was broke or loose. Problem no manual. I later found out
why … The manufacturer put the power operated cable reel together with
100% rivets and then put a sticker on the unit that said, “Warranty
Void” if the rivets are tapered with… Please .. I drilled out the 3
rivets for an access plate, which really did not reveal anything, then 8 more
rivets to get to the power ring assembly,,, I found the black leg had come
loose and the brushes were not making contacts, but the power had arched and
burned the insulating blocks… I removed the damaged contact and re-drilled
the holes in the block, re-assembled and voila, problem fixed. Janice really
did a lot of help because some of this is in tight spots for my big body to
squeeze into. Thanks Janice…
We had to re-install the power reel and the motor home
AC was back in business. Also today we washed the entire motor home and then we
re-installed the sun screens and tire covers.
We also added salt to the brine tank of the Culligan
soft water system. WOW this was a lot of work.

Today is the official 28th anniversary of
me and Janice, although we are not married. I guess that ship sailed by and we
decided not to embark on that voyage. Our neighbors in Cincinnati,
Ohio had sent a pre-paid Visa card to use because when they were in Vegas they
wanted to take us to dinner but were unable to find the time. Darn Vegas, so
much do so little time to do it. So we had an anniversary dinner on our
neighbors… Thanks Mike and Sue hope to see you again soon.

A Complaint I sent to Caesar's

Below is a copy of a letter which I am mailing to the
President of Las Vegas’s Caesar’s Casino as well as the manager of
Caesar’s Poker Room
I hope they will respond and improve their
responsiveness of the poker room management. It is my intention to spur upper
level management to discuss this situation with the Poker Room management and
see if an improvement can be made.

Below is an excerpt that I found from an article
online regarding the grand opening of Harrah’s premier poker room.
On December 20th,
2005, Caesars opened Las Vegas' largest poker room. Caesars new poker room
spreads 63 tables – 33 specifically designated for tournaments and 30 for
live action.
"For many
years, Caesars was one of the biggest names in poker," said Michael Matts
– Caesars Palace Poker Room Manager. "Starting on December 20th, a new
poker era began when we brought poker back to one of Las Vegas' most legendary
and luxurious casinos. Whether it's recreational games, mid-limit poker,
big-bet poker, or our ongoing tournaments, Caesars
sets a new standard in excellence."
Well I have a service complaint as far as that
“standard of excellence” is concerned;
The upper management of Harrah’s and
Caesar’s must have realized the importance of a quality environment when
they built the new poker room. They went to the expense to build the room as a
“ROOM” off the casino floor but near the sports book. They built it
separate with a big glass doors and a 40 foot hallway leading to the poker
room. This was done to make it a good environment to play poker. The players do
not hear have to hear the horse race announcers as in some other rooms.
However during certain nights the combination of LOUD
and I mean very LOUD music from the Pussy Cat Dolls casino and to a lesser
extent from PURE which invades the poker room to such an extent that I and other
players do not always hear other players announce a raise or an all-in. One
player at my table was using Bose Noise Canceling headphones and told me that
they would not even completely block out the LOUD MUSIC, did I say VERY LOUD
MUSIC coming from outside of the OPEN doors.
When the floor management was asked by me to at least
close the glass doors which would greatly reduce the music, I was told that
they never close the doors as they were afraid people would not come in to play
poker, as if the people would think the poker room is closed. You have
glass doors to enter the casino and your customers seem to have figured out
that they open by pulling on the handle. Why not close the doors, they were
included in the expenses when building the poker room. Since the room is open
24/7 365 why include glass doors which open and close when building the room.
If you can not use the doors, then why not save the expense and just put in a
hallway opening.
I am writing this letter to the top management as my
suggestions seem to fall on deaf ears in the poker room.
I am hopeful that you as President of Caesar’s
Las Vegas realize that we as locals we are your clients, your customers, not
players, not just once year tourist gamblers who next year may decide to stay
elsewhere.
During the months of August thru September 2008 the
poker room is actually giving away nearly $600,000 in seats for their October
Classic main event tournament. A reasonable person would thus conclude that
Caesar’s desires to increase the awareness and popularity of their poker
room. Repeat business comes from great customer service.
Friday night, September 5th, 2008 I was playing at
Caesar’s where they had ONLY two 2/5 NL games spread. The Venecian had
eight 2/5NL games spread during the same time. (I called and checked) You may
ask why the Venecian spreads four times as many games. I think it is
because they listen to their customers and are willing to do everything they
can to satisfy their customers! During the Presidential conventions the
Venecian had no problem in putting CCN on one of the televisions, so I could
listen to the simulcast on XM radio and listen to the speeches. The management
at Caesar’s said they could not put on CNN, they can put of the fashion
channel but not CNN. Don’t get me wrong, beautiful women on the
televisions beat the heck out of some of the sporting events, but no CNN???
That is basic cable why not?
Another example is that when I attended the last
Caesar’s major tournament event, management suspended “Tableside
Dining” until after the multi day event ended. What, they serve food at
the tables every other day, but now that they were running at 100% capacity
they suspended food service. Why … during these events they have
attracted more players and they give less service. I was told by management
that they would not have enough waiter staff to bring the food to the tables
when they have all of the tables busy 24/7 … Are you kidding me …
How many employees do they have working at Caesar’s? Are you telling me
that for a special event in which they worked hard to attract more players that
they cut back on customer service because of lack of food service help?
Please …. Tell me it is not so!
I ran my own business since I was 19 years old and I
can not believe that the upper management levels actually know what is going
on. That is the reason that I hope that I am not wasting my time in sending
this letter to you as the President of Caesar’s.
I sincerely hope that I have not made enemies of
anyone within the Poker Room Management, but when I feel management is not
making sensible decisions when it comes to customer satisfaction, I try to
elevate my concerns to their superiors. If they do not address the situation,
then I can only conclude that they are not serious about wanting to grow their
business. The press release I posted above said “… Caesars
sets a new standard in excellence" are you
serious about delivering on this goal or not.

Caesars Classic $10K Event

The annual Caesars
Palace Classic begins in October, and with festivities just
around the corner, the poker room is giving away $400,000 worth of seats into
the main event — for free.
There are two ways I can snag one of these $10,000 tournament entries. The
first promotion is a daily raffle that runs from now until the end of
September. Every day, players who hit a qualifying hand of quads or better will
receive a raffle ticket. That day’s raffle tickets will go into a drawing
that is held on the next day at 7 p.m. The winner will get a seat
into the Caesars Palace Classic
main event scheduled for Oct. 28. Participants do not need to be present to
win.
The second way is through a freeroll tournament that awards 10 seats.
All that players have to do to qualify for the freeroll
is play 40 hours of cash games from Oct. 1-26. The tournament will be held on
Oct. 27.
I have been playing at Caesar’s since the 1st
of the month and Friday night I finally made quad 4’s … Ten other
high hands were made on Friday so Saturday evening at 7PM I will watch them
draw names from a raffle drum. I will have approximately a 9% chance of winning
a $10,000 seat for the Caesars Palace
Classic main event scheduled for Oct. 28… The tournament
will be maybe the best structure ever with 100,000 in tournament chips and
probably about 350 players in the field with a guaranteed minimum $1 Million
Dollar 1st place prize.
I hope the raffle gods are smiling on my chances
tomorrow night.

I need strength

News Flash … I am fat !!!!
Several years back I read a book
called Body For Life written by Bill Phillips.
He has a web site http://BodyForLife.com and I visited that as
well.
I started his program and I lost
about 100 lbs and was getting in the best shape that I had been in for years. A
traumatic and unforeseen bad event happened in my life which knocked me off the
life style and I went back to my life time of poor eating habits and choices. I
regained all the weight I had lost plus even more.
The premise of the “Body For
Life Program” is eating 6 small meals a day and exercise. By small meal I
mean nothing trendy or radical … just balanced protein, carbohydrates,
and low (not no) fat. My typical starting meal is 3 Tyson baked chicken
tenderloins (no skin) and a baggie full of veggies (maybe carrots, cauliflower,
and broccoli) or a baked potato (with either A1 sauce or so salsa for taste) or
low GI index fruits apples, … roughly 200 to 300 calories a meal.
You need carbs for brain power, as
the cells in the brain can not burn or use protein. I also like to snack
on Soy Nuts … try them they are one of natures most perfect foods. Soy nuts make
guilt-free super good for you snacks! Let's face it... people just love
crunchy salty snacks. The problem is that nearly all the choices out there end
up being bad for your health! And simply trying to suppress that natural
snacking urge is nearly impossible.
Here's the bottom line quick summary:
- Great source of
B-vitamins, iron, zinc and antioxidants.
- Good source of
phytochemicals such as isoflavones.
- Naturally cholesterol-free, plus helps lower "bad"
cholesterol.

Body For Life --- The Secret is …
The secret is to eat often so your
body never ever thinks it will be hungry and then the body will start burning
the excess fat. This is hard to do; I had to by a watch with an alarm on it
years ago and set it to beep when it is time to eat. I think that at my present
weight I really burn way more the 2000 calories a day. The difference in
calories burned and consumed results in fat being burned. Carrying this much
weight around is a lot of work and burns a lot of calories. “Body For
Life” worked before but I was 8 years younger and not as heavy. I was
then able to exercise 3 days a week and right now that is much too difficult
for me.
Now when I go to play poker I have
to take 3 or 4 meals already prepared with me. This is a pain but I need to
stick with it. It also means shopping 2 times a week for fresh veggies
and fruit.
I have already made it through one
of the hardest things about the program. Drink lots and lots of water. About a
month ago I gave up drinking Diet Pepsi and concentrated on drinking water. It
takes about a month to get used to it, but I now am drinking a minimum of eight
500ml bottles a day. Many days I think I may drink 12 to 16 bottles. This cleanses
your system and eliminates all the bad chemicals that these drinks have in
them.
After you make it through the 1st
month of eating 6 small meals a day, then the program’s creator recommends
that you create 1 day a week where you can schedule yourself to eat any darn
thing you are craving. I found I waited a little longer to do this because
making this type of adjustment is tough for me.
I am writing this to keep a journal
of my progress; I am just hoping I can find the strength not to want to go off
the wagon when I feel stressed which is often playing this damn game of poker.
Doing all of these steps at once is
a traumatic life style change, which is why I started with the drinking of lots
of water. Now the eating often and small balanced meals, then hopefully some
real cardio and strength training exercise.

Crazy Mike - WOW I like this guy!

This is the most entertaining
individual that I have ever played with and that includes Mike Matusow and Sam
Grizzle.
On Tues August 19th, 2008 Crazy Mike
was playing at the Venecian he had 20 racks of red being dragged around by the
floor people on a table behind him he played 2/5 NL on Table 8 for an hour and
a half were he raised 5X blind nearly every hand, (I love it) ... He kept
telling us that he has $250,000 more behind so gamble it up.
He then moved to Table 19 a 1/2 NL
game where his stick was to move all in for $100 blind every hand and if he won
he would let it ride next hand. I followed him to Table 19 .. I love his
action and I hope to do well and I have a bit of greed in me. “Lord, Please
forgive me and bless those poor starving kids in third world countries.” J
He then tried playing on the 2/5NL
Table 11 and the 1/2 NL on Table 19 at the same time and he tips so heavy the
floor people do not say anything except "No Problem" ... then he got
bored on Table 19 and quit the 1/2 NL.
I followed him again to Table 11 but
by the time I got there he got bored and quit all together. He drinks
bunches of Pepsi then He has the waitress bring him 2 6 packs of Corona
cartons filled with Fiji water
instead of Corona. 12 Bottles of water to 1 person at
once. Did I say he tips well? I believe he left about 3 1/2 racks down in about
2.5 hours ... He said that he would rather give the money to poker players
instead of the casino in the pits... God Bless his way of thinking. He did take
about 8 bottles of water with him when he left. ( Is that $700 a bottle? )

Cash Game Poker is in Flux
| |
Lately I see that the Las
Vegas casinos are in flux as to their poker offerings. For a
few days Bellagio raised the max buy-in on the 2/5NL game to $1000 from $500
but then moved it back. They upped the max buy-in on the 5/10 game and
left that increased.
Mirage increased their max buy-in a
while back on the 3/5NL Holdem game to $1000 and it has decreased the number of
games available, as it seems less people are interested.
Last night was Tuesday and at 8PM
MGM did not even have a 2/5 running and Bellagio only had about 4 …
things are noticeably slower post WSOP? Go figure

WSOP is over
| |
Well the WSOP has finished and 58000
players came to Vegas from 118 countries. Now that the WSOP is over most players
have gone back to the internet.
Well man the internet players are
way more aggressive than most players in the normal Vegas live games. I have
never been 3 bet and 4 bet more pre-flop in a live game than when the series is
going.
In 10 ½ months it will start
all over again. WeeeeWooo

Running bad on the board... It stinks

I was playing in a live game with 60
big blinds as my standard buy-in.
I get play AhKh in the BB for my 1st
hand …
I raise 4 1 BB limpers to 10 BB’s
out of the Big Blind .. I get 1 caller and the board flops a 4 5 8 flop.
I had 50 BB’s left at the
start of the hand so I made a 20 BB continuation bet ... this left me 30 BB’s
behind ... the opponent moved all-in meaning I had to call 30 BB’s to win
94.5 BB’s I think an A or a K will win the hand for me and
the range of hands I put him on is wide and this could be a move on my
continuation bet hoping I missed. I am getting a little more than the exactly 3
to one on my call and the AK should against a under pair 24.95% of the time ...
I call and no A or K
Man life is tough when you can not
hit a hand.

Playing NL Holdem Cash Game wth Dmitri Nobles

I played in a cash game with Dmitri Nobles
tonight. You may remember that he is the tall black gentleman who amassed a
huge chip stack the 1st few days of the 2006 37th Annual
World Series of Poker Main Event. He eventually lost them playing really fast,
and finished in 76th place collecting $65,973.00 … This is his
only cash list in the Cardplayer.com database. Now let me say that he is a
really fun and interesting individual to have at your table and I enjoyed
having him around.
With Dmitri Nobles at the table I thought
juicy. He played lots of hands and the board flopped to whatever he was
holding. He made hand after hand, houses, quads, and his stack grew. So did
mine, but not really from his stack.
A hand came up where he raised in
early position and I flat called with 4s5s figuring he would not put me on a
hand either … The flop came with 2 spade. He bet and I called. Well I
made the flush on the turn. He checked and I trickily checked behind to induce
him to bluff at the pot on the river. He bet a more than pot sized bet. I had 3
times more than his bet and I thought well my flush is small but he could have
a Q9 for a straight or 10 J for 2 pair … Oh he could have any darn thing …
--- I ran into his Straight … Straight Flush that is …
I could have just called his big river
over bet but I pushed for over 3 times as much instead of calling ...
It is a mistake to assume that since
you can not put a player on a hand that they are following along the statistical
likelihood that
If you have 2 spades and there are 3
spades on the board then the odds they also have been dealt 2 spades is very
low, I believe less than 5%. But I am not sure. I do know that if someone

The truth is a big bet on the river which,
is what I expected as a bluff, turned out to be the Stone Cold Nuts.
Why do I embarrass myself writing
this? It is because if I right it down I will burn it in my brain and perhaps next
time I will make a better play and just flat call the river.
I also will read this out loud into my computer and
save this as an mp3 music file. I will then load it into my mp3 player and then
while I am someday listening to random music tracks I will hear myself read
this blog and thus again remind me that I can play this situation better next
time against a player whose range of hands is the same as Sammy Farha …
169 hands from 23o to AA and all of them for a raise in any position.

Janice Campanello made a Final Table Today
| |
On Friday the 13th,
Janice entered the Mega Stack series tournament at Caesar’s and drew
table number 13 … The tournament had 622 players enter the tournament and
Janice played 14 straight hours on Day 1 to make it down to the final 30
players.
She returned on Saturday as a short
stack and survived and made it to the final table. She actually finished in 9th
place besting 613 players … The blinds were 20000 / 40000 with a 5000
ante … Having only 300000 in chips she found 77 in middle position and
went all-in … One of the players in the blind having around 600000 called
with A10 off … The blind player in my opinion risked half his stack on a
called in which he could have been dominated by a bigger Ace however he found a
10 on the board and Janice was finally sent to the rail…
Janice played 17 hours of great
poker, picking her spots and I am proud of her.

Nice People Do Still Exist

I met a man named Jose from the east
coast who plays at Foxwoods.
He forced me into a massage at the table after I told him that I had never
paid $2 a minute for a massage.
Wow ... I asked for the minimum 10 minute massage but it ended up being 30
minutes and she was very good. She then gave him a massage for nearly an hour.

WSOP 1st Event PL Holdem $10K Buyin

Today I decided to sweat the final 4
players being filmed by ESPN of the WSOP Event #1 … The chip counts
Here
is a look at the chip counts at this late stage in the event:
Andy Bloch: 3,300,000
Nenad Medic: 1,700,000
Mike Sexton: 1,600,000
Kathy Liebert: 580,000
Kathy Liebert Eliminated in Third Place ($306,064)
Nenad Medic raised to 300,000 on the button and Kathy Liebert
moved all in for 850,000. Andy Bloch then reraised the pot to 2,800,000. Medic
then moved all in after that and Bloch made the call to cover both of his
opponents in a three way all in. They then turned up their hands:

Medic: Q Q
This set up a great heads up match which
Andy had no chance in … congratulations Nenad Medic
Well that was exciting … I also
noticed how Andy handled heads up at a chip disadvantage … very
interesting…

WSOP Update

I went to the WSOP today …
I decided to try a single table satellite
It has one winner paid … 1000
starting chips
I ran 3’s into A’s and
lost but had 300 chips left … I came back and finally got heads up.
My opponent a nice young man offered
an even chop, although he held a chip advantage. I nicely explained that I
really wanted to play it out and that it was no disrespect to him, I just like
to compete and the blinds were still 150/300 so there was still some play left.
I overcame a chip deficit heads up
and even got a 3-1 lead (I had 7600 and he had 2400) when I had him all in. I
held 22 and he held A6 … He won and now nearly even in chips and with
blinds at 300-600 and 5K in chips it was now a crap shoot, so he again offered
to chop and I explained why now would be the right time since we both had less
than 10 times the big blind.

World Series of Poker Starts

Well I went yesterday to the Rio for
the 1st time for this years WSOP.
WOW they have really tried to
improve things… like a separate room for single table satellites …
I tried 2 satellites and finished 6th
in each … 1st hand I played I good allin pre-flop with
77 and flopped a set … WOW then the board went runner runner
357 flopped then 4 then 6 on the
river a 7 high straight on the board and we all chop … Oh well … I
could of lost after all in did get in bad getting called by QQ and AJ ….
I out flopped them and then the poker gods said let’s do a “Do Over”
… J

Playing Poker with Bruce Buffer

UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer recently took third
place at the WPT LA Classic poker tournament at the Commerce Casino in Los
Angeles,
I had the pleasure of playing with
Bruce Buffer Thursday. He was in town for the big UFC fight tonight.

A Donkey Flops Top 2 Pair - Hee Haw

A player with was up 1050 with 1650
in front of them in a 5/10NL game at the Bellagio.
In the BB holding KQ off suit, the
player checked and saw the flop.
The dealer flopped KQ7 rainbow.
Holding KQ the player decides to check and see what happens … Everyone
checks behind to the button who bets $40. The pot was not raised and the $40
could be a button last to act takedown.
Holding K’s and Q’s the
BB raises to $140 to take down the pot. Wrong the button calls the $140
with another $140 on top. Instead of releasing the KQ the BB like a donkey
pushes all in for about $1400 more. The button thinks about it and
another player not currently in the hand is way out of line, telling his friend
to fold, that she is clearly beat. Way out of line … he is a Bellagio
regular and I might have to have a talk about that at some later date. The
Asian lady on the button calls and has the BB covered. She rolls over a
set of 7’s Surprise!!! Surprise!!! Surprise!!! The donkey had outs 2 Queens and 2
Kings but none were to be found.
I was a temporary donkey, yes me …
Hee Haw . ...
I should have lost about $250 at the
most on this hand in check call mode, out of position (out of the BB).
Instead I check raise the flop and
get re-raised and I pushed all-in --- in an un-raised pot...
Top 2 Pair is a hand which routinely
can lose huge pots for tourists and in check call mode routinely can win
smaller pots for me.
Hee Haw, I feel like I played
like a chump… and I did play that hand like a chump.
I have not stacked off post-flop
with 2 pair while more than 150 big blinds deep in a long time.
I had only one option, say nice hand
and pack up and leave to go home. I am spending the next few hours in personal
contemplation.
Writing this blog will help me
remember, deeply remember what I did wrong. Almost everything …

Peacocks in Vegas?

Now I have seen something that surprised
me in Vegas.
Sunday a peacock walked by my motorhome
and jumped up to the roof of a house nearby … I used the telephoto lens
but the pictures stick. It is a real peacock. It seems someone had it as a pet
and it escaped. Go figure

Rhyolite, Nevada - I visit a true Ghost Town
| |
|
Today Janice and myself took a
drive with our good friends John and Wendy Freeman to Rhyolite,
Nevada.
Rhyolite, Nevada is a ghost town
in Nye County, Nevada, United States. It is located in the Bullfrog Hills, about
3.8 miles west of the town of Beatty, near the western edge of Death
Valley.
The town came into existence as
the result of a gold rush that began in 1904, and had its peak population from
1905 to 1910, when decreased gold production led to a decline that culminated in
its abandonment by 1919.
Gold was discovered in the area by
Shorty Harris and E.L. Cross on August 4, 1904. Their "Bullfrog strike" gave
rise to a number of gold rush towns that drew prospectors and speculators from
surrounding towns such as Goldfield and Tonopah. Rhyolite, named for the
deposits of the rock which contained much of the gold, would become the largest
of these settlements. The most important operation was the Montgomery Shoshone
mine and a mill was constructed to process its ore. The mine was sold to
industrialist Charles M. Schwab in 1906 for a reported 5 million dollars.
By 1907, the town had electricity
with an estimated population of 3,500 to 10,000. The Panic of 1907 is believed
to have adversely affected the town's economy. Production began to slow down by
1908 and the mine and mill were closed in 1911. By 1910 only an estimated 675
people remained in Rhyolite. The lights and power were turned off in 1916. By
1919, the post office had closed and the town was abandoned

The old train station still
remains with a caboose sitting nearby. The building is in remarkably good shape.
There is an abandoned mine entrance with a posted warning "Unsafe Mine! Stay
out, stay alive!"
Many of the old buildings, such as
the Bottle House and train station, are fenced off from the public to protect
them from vandalism. Most of the other buildings, including the bank, schools,
and jail, have long since decayed and partially caved in.
The Bottle House, a house built
from thousands of beer and liquor bottles by Tom Kelly in 1906, was restored by
Paramount Pictures in 1925 for use in a movie. Recently rebuilt, it remains
standing and complete.
Goldwell Open Air Museum, a free
admission outdoor sculpture park, is located at the southern entrance to
Rhyolite, off Highway 374.

The ruins of the Cook Bank
Building were used in both the 1998 film Six-String Samurai and the 2005 film
The Island. In fact over 20 movies have used this town as a movie set. The
bank's vault was built to keep out the bank robbers and it has not feel apart as
most of the building did. THe bank valut door however was no longer
there.

Red Rock Canyon

Yesterday Janice, I and our good friends John
and Wendy Freeman from Cincinnati went to see Red Rock Canyon. It was pretty amazing. It is an area of valley surrounded by
amazing rock formations.
I
included a few photos including a photo of a sign I saw
near Las Vegas which says in the international language “Beware of Donkeys ---
13 miles” how appropriate. See the pictures… attached or below …

Information about Red Rock Canyon…
You can go horseback riding in the morning and have a Red
Rock wedding in the afternoon; you can bring the family out for a picnic, and
pet the wild burros that line the road just at feeding time.
The Red Rock Canyon area is, arguably, the most beautiful area in Nevada—perhaps the
southwest. Whether you are a rock climber, a hiker, a rock hound, or just
appreciate the beauty of wild horses, bighorn sheep, and wild burros roaming
free, this part of Nevada is just for you.
Red Rock Canyon is located about 17
miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. From Las Vegas the Conservation Area
can be approached from Charleston Boulevard [north of Sahara Avenue], which
will turn into State Route 159; or from State Route 160 [south of Tropicana] to
the Junction with Route 159. Just follow Route 159 until you see the
entrance.
Red Rock Canyon features a one-way 13-mile scenic drive, a Visitor Center which offers information and interpretation about
recreation opportunities, wildlife, vegetation, geology, cultural resources and
much more. The facility also offers a book and gift store operated by the
Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association, a non-profit organization with the
mission of researching and sharing interpretive information about RRCNCA and
assisting the BLM with endeavors related to interpretation.
A Conservation Area is an area of federal public
land set aside
"In order to conserve, protect and enhance
[the area] for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations
......"
In 1990, special legislation supported by
the Nevada congressional delegation, declared the Red Rock Canyon area of southern Nevada to be a National
Conservation Area [NCA], ONLY THE seventh to be designated
nationally. As stated in its enabling legislation:
"In order to conserve, protect and enhance
for the benefit and enjoyment of present and future generations the area in
southern Nevada containing and surrounding the Red Rock Canyon and the
unique and nationally important geologic, archeological, ecological, cultural,
scenic, scientific, wildlife, riparian, wilderness, endangered species and
recreation resources of the public lands therein contained, there is
established the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area."

Harrington on Cash Games

I just read both volumes on
Harrington on Cash Games "How to Win at No-Limit Hold'em Money
Games", I also had previously purchased both volumes of Dan Harrington's
much heralded tournament series ...
First Harrington again has done a
comprehensive job of creating an epic; however I personally found him less of a
revelation in the cash game series than in the tournament books. It could be me
and my base of knowledge.
Volume I covers Pre-flop play and
play on the Flop.
Volume II covers the Turn and the
River as well as some sections on dealing with Loose Aggressive style players,
Tells, Beating Weak Games and Bankroll Management.
Bottom line, I wish he never wrote
it... If a sucker has the brains and discipline to read it, learn it and
practice it, he will be a better player. Harrington once again has wised up
some suckers.
Lucky for us, 90% of all people who
claim they play poker think they already play better than 90% of all poker
players. Thank the good lord that these people are too lazy and are not sufficiently
motivated to read and learn.

I miss "Ray's Barber Shop in Cincinnati Ohio"

|
In Cincinnati, Ohio located on
6545 Colerain Avenue just south of Galbraith Road is located Ray's Barber Shop.
This is the absolute best barber shop in Cincinnati. Ray West founded the shop
around 1960 and I may have been one of his first customers when my dad took me to
the barber for a haircut.
For 45 years all I have had to do to get my hair cut
correctly was to show up and sit down. Ray knew what to do and what I wanted.
I never bothered with layers or not, on the ears or above, blah blah blah
All I want is a haircut and now that I am in Las Vegas I have been going to
Great Clips, after all they do support Nascar so I'll give them some business.
They are convenient as no appointment is necessary, but a different new girl who
is not even a barber cuts your hair everytime ... They do not even lather up the
back of my neck and shave it with a straight razor, which I do miss. Only a
barber can do this I am told not a stylist.
Ray I miss you buddy, come on out to Vegas, play some golf, have some drinks and bring your clippers and straight razor I
have a job for you while your here. Remember to check your straight
razor in the baggage so you don;t get arrested.

Cash Game - Pot Control vs Pressure

Here are some rambling about a hands
in a cash session.
Situation -----
I am in a 2/5 NL game and for 3
hours I did not showdown a hand. I bought in for 100 big blinds and I am down
300.
I missed 7 possible sets, but then I saw 66 in the BB in a
raised pot. A loose player I know raised 4x and I just called to disguise my
holdings. I hit a set of 6's on a flop of 679 with two clubs … I decided I
wanted to take the pot down on the flop so I know the loose player will
continuation bet on this flop. He does and bets $50 and gets smooth called from
behind... I check raise the two $50 bets to $200 then I get re-raised All-in for
$150 more. I am more than priced in to make the call the approximately $150 more
and he has a made straight with 8 10 … He says I have the nuts… I said not yet
but the board does not pair and now I lose a total of $357 on the hand … The
debate is Should I have check called with the possibility of a made straight on
the board or assume I have the best hand and that I could move most draws and
single pair hands and maybe get called by top
2 pair???? I choose pressure ... According to cardplay,com, the set will win even if the straight is out
there 35.66% of the time against a made straight and if there are draws out there they will
fold maybe 30% of the time for such a large re-raise in this game, so I figured I
should win the pot 30% of the time right there and take down the $200
in the pot for the $200 check raise, also if I check call and the board
pairs on the turn the straight might get away from the hand and not pay me off
so I risk the $50 with maybe no implied odds and if the board does not pair I
expect a $100 to $150 (that's all he had left) bet to be fired at me by the straight
(if it exists already) on the turn anyway. So pressure should win the $200 in
the pot on the flop 30% of the time and 35.66% of the time I will fill up
and win the pot of nearly $800 and if my opponents have lesser hands I
win as well..
Later I flopped top pair of K with
an Ace kicker in a disguised hand I smooth called a 5x pre-flop raise in
position to disguise my AK suited. The flop was K 10 x and it was checked
to me … I bet $35 was check raised to $100 I moved all-in for nearly $500,,,
An overpair of Aces actually called calling $500 after the flop with a
single overpair is as far as I am concerned a really bad call. I thought any
single pair would not call $400 more … Pot Control or Pressure you
decide????

Nascar Double Header Invades Las Vegas

This weekend Nascar's big show
comes to Vegas baby and the motorhome community where I stay is in full gear.
This afternoon and evening they have
a Nascar party along with golf cart races. The race is a fun affair with racing
to check points and tossing tennis balls into barrels and then running down to
the next checkpoint and tossing beads over an orange construction cone, then
thru a championship slalom of weaving back and forth, where two ladies nearly
crashed into another golf cart sliding to a stop less than a foot away from
each other.
The golf carts then paraded through the
community all decorated for their favorite drivers. One orange decorated cart said
Pimp Daddy and was obviously aimed at Tony Stewart for some reason.
The weather was great with a high
about 70. Jan and myself walked the dogs down to the races where they were not
alone. Dobbies, Shepards, Collies, Poodles, Westies, small rat like dogs and
more were there watching as well.
Like always I root for the underdogs, I really like the
humbleness of Dale Jr., but if I could get my way Michael Waltrip would win the
Sprint Cup race and Dale Jarrett would finish second.

Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza Ends

Well
what a busy place the Venetian has been during the Deep Stack Extravaganza.
As I
sat there playing a little live cash game action last week I said to myself,
management would have to be asleep not to run this event every 2 months.
Today I read an
article on
CardPlayer.com today which stated..
Last year was the Venetian’s first attempt at the DSE, and the series
did not have a main event. Another deep stack tournament series is being added
to the Venetian’s schedule and will take place in April. Stay tuned for details
on this as it becomes available on
CardPlayer.com.
Well today it's off
to my favorite spot to find some soft action … S O F T means Seats

2008 NBC National Heads-Up Championship Satellite

Today a tournament was held at Caesar's in
Las Vegas ... It was a satellite to The
2008 NBC National Heads-Up Championship which is an
invitational only event.
The tournament attracted 79 hopefuls, including me. THe
entry fee was $540 and the payouts was 1st Place ... seat in the
2008 NBC National Heads-Up Tournament plus $1000 2nd place was $10,389 and 3rd
place pays $6,926.
This was a tough field ... some notable players were
Hoyt Corkins, JJ Lieu, David Levy, Andy Bloch, Amnon Phillipi, Lee Watkinson,
and Hal Lubarksy. Hal who is legally blind and outlasted more than 6,000 people
to finish in 193rd place on day four on the 2007 WSOP Main Event. Hal's card
reader today was Dane Baverman a very good poker player originally from the
Cincinnati, Ohio area.
We started with 7500 in chips and 50 minute levels
…
Here are some key hands I wrote down
Level 1 25/50
An Asian guy whom I do not know his name is very
aggressive in Seat 8 on my Table #42 … I am in seat #2 .. Seat 8 is raising more
than a fair share and he made it 150 .. I called with Ah9h .. flopped 2s2c3h and
he bet and I folded.
This is a good one .. Seat #1 is a conundrum … I can not
figure out how good he really is. The UTG player raises to 200 a MP calls 200
two more callers smooth call the 200 … This guy acts like he wants to call but
throws in two 1000 dollar chips instead of two 100 dollar chips ??? what … he is
ruled to have raised and must leave them in the pot. The UTG folds and a
MP player moves in smelling weakness for $2076 more. The Seat #1 is stuck
so he calls with 44 … the Move-In Player has QQ … well a 4 on the river and
“Seat Open”
Level 2 50/100 I have 10000 in chips
to start
I have 10’s a player raises to 350 another smooth
calls the 350, I squeeze re-raise to 1550. The first player goes
All-In fo $4750 total and Seat #1 calls All-in for about $3500 so there over 10K
in the pot and it is $3200 to call … I do and I am up against AQ and A10 … flop
is xKx then K then A … ouch …
Level 3 100/200 I have 6K to
start
1st hand of the level after the break I get
QQ … I raised looking like I was blind stealin’ because the BB was late getting
back from the break and the SB smelled weakness moved All-In for a short stack …
I called and he showed JK … my Queens held up and I was at 7900 in
chips
David Levy open raised to 500 in late position with me
in the BB holding Ah7h . Seat #1 smooth called and I re-raised to 1500 …
David Levy called and Seat #1 folded … The flop was A55 I led 1500 and David
Levy folded.
I was in the BB and I sung my BB song. “I don’t
mind if you steal my blind” …. Seat 8 raised to 600 and I woke up to AA
and re-raised to 2500 and he folded … He was clearly stealing.
I tried to steal some blinds with 27 off and was
re-raised and I released.
Hoyt Corkins moved to my table in Seat #1 on my right
shoulder. We are very friendly with each other and we chatted a bit about the
Reno and Commerce tournaments,
Level 4 150/300 with a 25 ante
Bad Structure .. This level should have been
100/200 with a 50 ante
I found JJ while UTG and I raised, a MP smooth
calls and 2 more players give me a smoothie. Hoyt (bold and tricky Hoyt) counts
out 300 in chips and puts them on his cards and re-raises to 4400 keeping 300
behind as a card protector. I know he can have a wide range of hands and I
insta-push after all if the players behind me had me beat they could have
re-raised me or several others before Hoyt moved. The player on my left shoulder
goes-all-in for 6400 with AA ouch … Hoyt showed Jh10h and I had JJ … Well lucky

and I think I am going to make a play and take the pot away. So I call… K on the
turn I check he checks behind the river brings an A … I know he would have
raised an A pre-flop and he would have continued betting with 2 pair or a K so I
bet 8000 on the river … He called and mucked face down … a 20K pot form the
Battle of the Blinds

We were down to 19 players on 3 tables and 17 out of 19
agreed that we could all take $1,000 and play for the seat.. Everyone
makes almost $500 and gets a free shot at the seat. Well I went over to
that table and said, “If you could see tomorrow’s newspaper today and it showed
you winning this tournament you will get $1000 and a seat … Why not take the
$1000 guaranteed and if you have a big stack you still can win your seat with a
guaranteed profit. Well that’s the problem with poker. “Ninety percent of all
poker players think they play better than ninety percent of the other
players!” Idiots…

We are down to 15 players … I have been card dead for
last 2 hours … my stack was down to $11,400 and it cost 2500 a round to
sit … and I have been basically sitting for the last 7 rounds without showing
down a hand… My table image I thought was good and tight. A MP player made
it 3000 and it folded around to me with Ad2d … I moved in thinking that this
player had a medium sized stack and could easily fold and I am 30.8% against all
pairs up to KK and counting the 40% of the time I think he will fold modest
hands, I figure I will win the money in the pot 70% of the time … He said I know
you have a pair but I probably have at least 1 over card … let’s gamble … A10off
… no one hit and I was gone in 14th place … someone busted on the
other table before our hand completed. I encourage any negative or
positive comments on this play … not one of my finer moments.

For the last couple of days I have had a sinus problem
which has lead to a nagging cough. Sleeping is not very restful and when I do
get up I just can't get motivated to go out and play.
I tell myself that I should go out and play, but my experience and wisdom
tells me that if I am not at 100% the risk of making bad decisions increases.
This is not like any other type of job. Most of the time if you do not perform
at 100% at a job, there is still work accomplished and you will probably still
get paid. Not in poker ... 100% or stay home ... I stayed home, it's not being
lazy it's just being smart.

Cell Phones can cost you

I need to make a new rule ... Turn off the cell
phone before the tournament ...
1 to 2 hours before you start a tournament you need to focus ...
Today just before the tournament I took 3 annoying and aggravating calls, my
mind was not focused and I think my decision processes were affected.
I busted out in level 2 ... I did not have to but I choose to ...
I had about 5200 of my original 6000 chips in level 2 ... Blinds were 50/100
and I was UTG with AKoff ... I raised my standard smallish raise and was
re-raised 3 times my bet by a mid position player who had me covered... The
player with the button was very short stacked with 1200 chips and he
moved All-In ... I knew in my mind his range was really large and might
have trash. I decided to isolate him and felt that if re-raise as the original
raiser to 5200 All-IN that the Mid-position player would fold most hands even as
high as QQ ... and even if he has a hand as good as KK my AKoff hand will
still hold up +29% of the time. Well he had AA ... and the button that I
was targeting had 47 off ... Low and behold the 47 off yelled ship it to me even
before the flop and he actually hit trip 4's cracking the AA for $1200 but the
AA got all my extra money in the side pot.
I was not in a good mood even before the hand and I mostly think the cell
phone calls put me out of focus.
I played with the blind man who got a lot of WSOP TV time last year .. He has
a reader whisper to him his cards and the action ... WOW either he is a very
very aggressive player or the deck was running over him in the first 2 levels
... He did not show many hands as he blasted his opponents out of the pots. I
wish I had lasted longer as I had no read on him whatsoever ... He showed a pair
of pocket 10;s once but that was about it and I bet he had won 15 pots over the
hour I lasted.
Turn the cell phone off next time ..

TLC in Poker
The Venetian Deep Stack Extravaganza tournament series
kicked off today with Event No. 1, a $330 buy-in no-limit hold’em tournament.
The prize pool amounts to more than $165,000 from the 571
entrants, 111 of which were alternates.
A few pros included in the field were Phil Gordon, Tony
Korfman, Bryan Micon, Maureen Feduniak and recent Women in Poker Hall of Fame
inductee Barbara Enright. The tournament is scheduled to play down to a final table tonight
and conclude tomorrow.
I got there at 8:45 AM and played a single table
satellite for $80 to attempt to get into the event for less. I played OK in this
satellite but I got very little in the way of quality starting hands. The 10 handed single tables give the top 2 finishers 3 “One Hundred Dollar
tournament lamers” plus $40 in cash.
The tournament is $300 going to the prize pool, plus $30
to the casino and for $10 extra you can receive an additional $1500 in starting chips .. Everyone takes this deal … I finished in 5th
place … no good …
I decided to take a second shot at a satellite and this
time, I got pocket 9’s the first hand after the initial shuffle of a stripped deck … This is a deck that had been setup by
the dealer in suit order …
The deck is then washed and shuffled by the shuffle
machine. The 1st and second hands seem to be dangerous … lots of pocket pairs
over pocket pairs and lots of flushes and cold decks just seem to happen. Well
back to the hand, I woke up with pocket 9’s and raised to $150 with
$25/$50 blinds … I was re-raised all-in and another player called All-in … if I
call it will be $3000 in the pot 1st hand 30% of the chips in play … I knew that
I was behind, but I also know that the stripped deck breeds upsets so I called …
and if I blew out Oh Well … Well I was up against AA and AK … I flopped a
9 and won the pot.
Then I sat on my hands until late in the tournament and
when we got 3 handed I raised on the button with 87 off and flopped 883 … this
young man could not believe that I would raise with middle connectors so he tried to bluff off
his chips and I busted him.
I got into the tournament for less than half price. Only $160 …
So how did I do… well I lasted for nearly 6 hours … At
the end of the 1st break after 3 levels I had more than twice the average chip
stacks … After the 6 levels I had a little over average chip stack… I then ended
up getting into a couple of confrontations with smaller stacks that pushed the
action and I felt compelled to call … Both times I was statistically ahead with
pocket pairs but lost a race. Now I was low on chips and the blinds were 600/1200 with a 100 ante
and I only had 6800 …
Then I ran out of TLC …
I ran out of
Talent,
ran out of Luck and
ran out of Chips …
When you run out of TLC it breaks your heart.

Age Activated Attention Deficit
Disorder. This is how it develops:
I decide to water my garden.
As I turn on the hose in the driveway, I look over at my car and decide my car
needs washing.
As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table
that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.
I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.
I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under
the table, and notice that the can is full. So, I decide to put the bills back
on the table and take out the garbage first.
But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox, when I take out the
garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first. I take my checkbook off the
table, and see that there is only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk
in the study, so I go inside the house to my desk where I find the can of Coke
that I had been drinking.
I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so
that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm,
and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold. As I head
toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my
eye--they need to be watered.
I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've
been searching for all morning. I decide I better put them back on my desk, but
first I'm going to water the flowers.
I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and
suddenly I spot the TV remote Someone left it on the kitchen table. I realize
that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I
won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in
the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers. I pour some water
in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor. So, I set the remote
back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill. Then, I head
down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do. At the end of the
day:
----the car isn't washed,
----the bills aren't paid,
----there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter,
----the flowers don't have enough water,
----there is still o nly 1 check in my check book,
----I can't find the remote,
----I can't find my glasses,
----and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled
because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but
first I'll check my e-mail.
Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I
don't remember to whom it has been sent.
Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!
GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY.
GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.

Have WSOP Withdrawals

To my blog fans I apologize ... I have been so busy that my blog entries has been few and far between. I am sorry.
Well here I am in Cincinnati and the WSOP has just gotten started in Las Vegas. I am having some withdrawals but thanks to my best friend I am getting some cell phone updates. To all my friends out there playing in Vegas I wish for your good hands to hold up and occasionally may you draw out on the donkey who called you holding the superior hand.

Remodeling is keeping me busy

I have not posted for a while because I have been so busy.
I am remodeling the kitchen in the house I selling ... I can not wait to
get back to Vegas.

Congratulations Dennis Perry - WSOP Tunica Champion 2007

a tribute to my friend Dennis Perry... Congratulations Dennis

My good friend Dennis Perry just won the WSOP Circuit Event in Tunica,
Mississippi.
He played with me the Tournament of Champions in 2005 at the same table
with Mike "The Mouth" Matusow, Alan and Steve Dannenmann, but
got little television coverage. This time he won $563,402 in a main
event, a championship ring, a $10,000 seat in the WSOP main event, a seat
in the 2007 WSOP Tournament of Champions and again he will get no
television coverage, because this event was not televised by ESPN.
The general public may not know how good he plays but I sure do and so
does anyone who has ever really played any real amount of time with
him.
Congratulations Dennis, you deserve it, you paid your dues. May you have
many more BIG wins to come.

I lost but you are still incorrect in your statement. "Money
Back" / "Quitter Payments" ARE FOR SUCKERS !!!
" Quitter Payments" are totally different than close to even
money or 3 way chops or even an "entry fee back saver" where we
continue to play out the tournament. Those situations are totally
different. You offered a "Quitter Payment" and I again say
"Quitter Payments" are for suckers.
If I turn down a $230 a "Quitter Payment" six times in a
row and lose, but on the seventh time I win and collect $2100 ... I would
have lost $1610 in "Quitter Payments" but I retained the
opportunity each time of winning $2100. Therefore any player will be
ahead by $490 by turning down seven "Quitter Payments" if he
only wins only 1 out of 7 times.
Let's say there are 10000 in chips in play and I am heads up with only
2000 in chips and my opponent has 8000 ... I am making this up because I
do not remember the exact count. I know I can win from there at least 1
out of 7 times and statistically I should have a 20% chance to win (1 out
of 5). If I am running well I will win maybe 2 out of seven times. If I
shove in the first hand and win, we are even now in chips. If you
had 80% of the chips you have a 4 to 1 advantage but I was getting almost
9 to 1 ($2100 vs $230) to play.
I had the situation reversed in California where a player had only 200 in
chips left and I had 7800, he doubled up 6 straight hands and beat me,
even though I was ahead pre-flop four out of seven times and my winning
any one of those hands would had won the tournament for me.
I was not being cocky or thinking I was a better player or the such, I
have just done the math and know that a $230 to "Quitter
Payment" in the long run represents a negative expected value of
nearly $80 each and every time I were to take and accept it and that is
not taking into consideration the value of my time.
Since you offered me a negative expected value settlement to quit, it
means you offered a PROFITABLE financial offer for you and that you in
reality you made a very savvy move. The fact that I turned it down means
I unlike many realize how smart a move it is for you to offer it and how
it is my best interest to turn it down and play.
If the situation was reversed in chips, I am sure that I would have made
you the same offer. After reading this I wonder if you would now accept
it?

I heard Barry Greenstein state in an interview on Live at TheBike that
"Most money in poker is won or lost as a result of tilt or loss of
control, either yours or your opponents".
Someone else looked up these quotes attributed to the legendary Bruce
Lee. We all know that Bruce Lee was amazingly always in emotional
control. Poker is all about control.

My grandon's Rhyan's First Christmas

Social Security Card

Terrorism has now rippled down to the license plate
level.
Now at least in Ohio, if you want to get license plates on a car for the
first time, you must present both a valid driver's license and either a passport
or authentic social security card.
I have not actually carried my card for years and applying for a new one is a
2 week process. You will need to fill out a form and then provide a driver's
license and a notorized original birth certificate at the SSA office. Do you
have an original of your birth certificate?
Sooner or later this spread out to more official uses so find your SS
Card.

Today is the day grandma talked grandpa into putting together one of Ryan’s
Christmas Presents a wooden toy chest. I think this is the most physical thing
Mark has done in awhile.
I’m glad

Wish I was in Vegas tomorrow

I wish I was in Vegas tomorrow. My good friend Greg Cash has organized a
neat new tournament structure.
It is hard to explain here, but if you can get to Binions Casino by 3:00
PM on Tuesday check out the new tournament format.
I hate being in Cincinnati, but as you can see Charlie and Katie do not
mind hanging out on the couch.

Emptying My Home Office

How to play a 15 hour losing session

I am still stuck in Cincinnati, trying to get my house ready to sell.
I played 15 hours at the Argosy on Saturday... Here is how I end up loser... This is a 2/5 NL game Capped $500 maximum buyin... the biggest offering on Saturday night.
I take notes so I can review my play and improve next time.
I missed a nut flush draw - heads up ... I did not hit my draw and had I hit it the player probably would not have laid down the hand because he had both a pair and a would have made a lower flush. -
I lost a $650 pot pre-flop when my All-in AA against QQ and all-in 89 got cracked when a 2 outer Q flopped I was a big favorite but once again I suck when it comes to flopping winners.
I had KK and was up against Ad3d who called my minimal raise and flopped 2d4d6s and he hit the straight on the turn ... I got too aggressive?
I played 2 5 off and flopped 10 2 7 and turned a 5 and he rivered a 7... I should never have bet the river after the 7 paired up giving my opponent trips, I had him on a big 10 ... I really lost an extra $100 here more than I should have...
I had raised pre-flop with As9s flopped A K K turned a blank x and the river was another x .. I was called by Ah10h and his 10 played.
Now I won a few hands the most memorable of which was getting a guy to commit himself pre-flop with 88 against my KK which held up .... and I also won a pot when my AA found a KK and my Aces held...
I end up $243 stuck and played 15.25 hours ... I was over $1200 stuck at one time ... The game got bad late and I quit .... YUCK!!!

Girard Systems has great service for their Awnings

To The President of Girard Systems
While at the RVIA National RV Trade Show I visited the Girard Awning booth. A few months ago my Girard awning had a problem which Girard agreed to pay Wheeler RV in Las Vegas to repair under warranty. Wheeler RV did a terrible job in my opinion. (Hey I call them the way I see them)
When I had arranged for the warranty work, I had spoke to Major Pogue on the phone from Girard Systems and he remembered me when I went showed up at the Girard Systems booth. I asked Major Pogue if he would be able to check on the awning's adjustments at the show. He said, "he would be happy to". Major and Jim Rouch met me when the show closed for the day and drove over to where my 45' Travel Supreme Select was parked.
The awning's front rail had been installed in a rigid manner when it should be able to swivel, and one of the nuts was almost ready to fall off. The motor limits both in and out were off, but Major and Jim adjusted everything in less than 15 minutes. They even did the work while still in their dress suits.
WOW your employees really know Girard's products inside and out ... They even went above and beyond the call of duty and stretched and re-tightened the actual fabric of the awning. It works great now ... I will highly recommend Girard Awnings when the topic arises. You have fully stood behind your product.

The National RV Trade Show - What a day!

I was privileged today to speak in front of 1200 people at the National
RV Trade Show. The show was so good they actually got these 1200
people to get up for a 6:15 AM breakfast... and WOW they had Dixieland
Jazz playing at 6:00 AM and it was intense.
Wow what a production they made. They must have worked months on it.
There were many other speakers including Dean Karnazes an internationally
recognized athlete and best selling author who grabbed national headlines
by recently completing fifty marathon races in 50 days. They call him the
“Ultra Marathon Man” …

I had to follow this??? I told the crowd that if they see me
running call the police cause someone must be chasing me with a gun.
Also appearing was American Idol finalist Celena Rae, who sung several
songs to keep the crowd pumped up.

I take terrible pictures but I tried.
I love working with the RVIA Â… they sponsor the GoRving.com ads on
television which asks “What will you discover?” I learned that
these ads were viewed by people 6.5 Billion times this yearÂ… Next year
they will air on the Olympics and American Idol as well as professional
PBA Bowling and Nascar.
I then signed some autographs on decks of cards at the GE Money finance
booth Â… wow what an operation they have Â… They had over 70 GE employees
working this show plus another 10 employees at GE Plastic Â…
I also met the Rob Engman Host and Executive Producer of RV TV, along
with his videographer, his wife and two Schnoodles (a
Schnauzer Poodle mix) .. RV TV is shown on the
Outdoor channel. I love their show. Check out their site at

In Memory of Chau Chau

On a sad note : this Saturday my oldest dog "Chau Chau", a West Highland Terrier, passed away from Kidney Failure.
He was the dog whose face appeared right in the camera on ESPN at the end of the RV and dog segement.
He was a true rescue dog who spent his first seven months in a cage at a pet store which is worse than being in a kennel.
In the last few years his eye sight and hearing had failed and his quality of life had diminished from having Cushings Disease ...
He was a joy to hold and he will be truly missed..

I was at Caesars Indiana and played in a $550 tournament with 293 players... Here is my diary ...
Level 1 25/25 Blinds
On the second hand I get AA and raised in mid position to 100 Â… TD (TD = Take Pot)
Limp on Button after 5 limpers with 45 off in the SB I raised and TD
QQ with two limpers I raised to 250 and got called by the SB. The flop came with Kxx and 2 diamonds.. he checked and I bet 500 he pushed all-in for 950 more and I asked if he was on a draw and he was on a flush draw Â… I called and his hand did not hold up.
I had 200 raise in front of me and I looked down to AA I re-raised to 800 and TD
Chips now at 4225 up from 2000 at end of the first level.
Level 2 25/50 Blinds
AK in the SB with 2 limpers I made in 275 and TD
I got a walk in the SB when the BB took a break.
I found Ad5d an early position raiser had made it 300 to go .. I smooth called and the flop came 9d 7d 5c .. He led out 700 on the flop and I pushed all-in .. He had AA and I made my flush Â… Another one bites the dust.
Level 2 ends and I have 8900 chips
Level 3 50/100 blinds
99 UTG (UTG = Under The Gun) I make it 300 and get two callers .. Flop K 9 3 I checked my set of nines and she bet out 300 and I pushed all-in Â… she then was thinking about it and I put her on A K so I told her throw that bluff in the muck and she instantly called ;-) Bye Bye Â… Nice lady but I wanted her chips.

Level 4 100/200
AJ off UTG raised 500 called by BB Flop JJx he checked and I checked .. he checked the turn which was I thought a blank and I bet 1000 TD
99 on the Button I had 5 limpers so I limpted also Â… Flop came 3 3 2 it checked around to me and I bet 1000 TD
AQ I open raised to 700 TD Chip Count 14800
Level 4 100/200
As 4s open raised to 700 and got one caller … Flop came blanks and I check folded to a bet from a tight player.
44 UTG limped and got in a seven way pot .. Flop 3 A 10 I check folded.
I has 10 10 and there was 3 limpers and I raised to 1200 Â… I was re-raised all-in by a limper for 1175 more Â… I called and my 10 10 met Gary's A A (I told him I would give him credit by name) A A and bye bye to my chips. ;-(

Ad6d UTG chopped 900 BB pushes all-in … He was a very short stack and I call Â… he had KK The flop came with 2 diamonds and I had a chance but no flush came.
I had AJ off chop 900 and an Old Guy who just came to the table re-raised me to 1400 because he claimed he did not know I raised. I call and then I check fold on a flop of blanks.

I found AsKs in BB and the SB pushes all-in .. I call and he had K 9 off .. AK holds

I had 10J off in BB Â… 2 limped te flop came K x x in other words all blanks for me and it was checked all around the turn was a 10 I bet the turn and was called the river came a J which also let a AQ make Broadway so I checked the river and TD

33 on the Button raised called by the BB Flop K 10 x Â… BB led out and I folded.
9d 7d in early position open raised to chop the pot and TD 2000

No hands were really playable Â… junk junk junk and there was always someone else already jockeying for control of the pots.

Time and antes passed and I was dropped in chips...
I dropped down in chips and eventually ran 66 into KK ouch :-) … I fail to
hit my 2 outer and another one bites the dust in 29th place two places out of
the money.

Tournament Diary WSOP Circuit event at Caesars Monday 10-23-2006

I played in a torunament Monday
at the WSOP Circuit event at Caesars riverboat in Indiana, There were
approximately 500 players and I outlasted 400 of them, … big deal that pays
nothing. Below is a little description of the hands played in this
tournament.
Level 1 – Blinds 25/25
I found only one hand to play
As6s … limped in and the board flopped 3 hearts FOLD
Level 2 – Blinds 25/50
I found JJ while I was in the big
blind. I called a 50 dollar raise from a mid position raiser. One player who had
limped under the gun re-raised to 300 … and the original raiser moved all in and
I mucked … the UTG player had AQ and called the allin and the all-in raiser had
A9. The board flopped a A …
good laydown for me.
I found 44 UTG and limped … Flop
missed and I released.
I found an AK in position 4
(acting immediately after the UTG position) I limped a player raised to 200 and
I put him all-in for a total of 675 which he called with AQ… I had him dominated
pre-flop and the board flops a Q … ouch I know have only 650 left of the
original 1500 in starting chips.
Level 3 – Blind 50/100
I found 55 in P4 and moved in …
player in the SB had over 5000 in chips and I knew would call with any 2 cards
and she did with a K 10 off … The best hand held up and I doubled through,
I had KQ on the button and limped
along with 2 others and saw a flop of QTx 2nd limper led out with a
300 bet and I moved in for 850 and he folded… Excellent lay down…
My chips are now back to 1575 …
I found 44 in P4 raised to 400
and took down the pot.
I had 93 off in the BB checked
and flopped K36 3 players checked I bet was called … I was done at that point
and the hand was checked down … He had a 6 and check called the flop with it and
I lost the pot. I misplayed the hand probably as I could have moved in on the
turn and he probably would have released bu he had more chips that I did so it
is possible he would have had the courage to call and gamble I was on a
steal…
Level 4 Blinds 100/200
I found KK in the small blind 5
limpers had limped in for 200 each.. I raised all-in for 1200 more and took down
the pot.
Chip count 2200
I found JJ in P4 and open raised
to 700 and took down pot.
I found KK in big blind the UTG
player had open raised to 500 and he had a ton of chips… I moved in for 3050
more and he called with AQ off … the board flopped QJ10 I was still in the lead
I saw an A on the turn and my heart sank immediately seeing 2 pair but look I
then see I had made broadway and a 8 came on the river for a blank. Whew I now
had 5200 in chips…
I found 10-8 open raised to 700
the small blind movein for an amount which would give me a head up play on the
10-8 for a more than 3 to 1 call. I called and she had AA ouch ran into Aces …
they hold up … best hand won.
I had JJ UTG open raised 500 2 ½
times the big blind … SB moved in and I called and we split the pot playing the
board..
I found KK open raised and
chopped the blinds.
Level 5 100/200 25 ante
I found 88 mid position moved
allin for 2100 and no callers …
No noteable hands were playable
at all until …
Level 7 300/600 75 ante
I had 3000 chips and found AQ off
in the cutoff position … everyone folded to my position and I open pushed all-in
… the small blind looked at his hand and found AA … Ouch I ran
into Aces AGAIN … This time they had me outchiped ... end of this
diary …

Why do I
write these ... to help myself and those who read this ...
When I wirte
this down I am reviewing my own plays.
What could I
have done differently ... not much ... I did not make any real bad moves... when
I had 5200 in chips I tried twice in a row to chop some blinds and antes and
found both times a short stack packing the goods and forcing my call because
with me getting 3-1 on my call of their all-in bets and me never having a pocket
pair already it was highly unlikely that I was a 3 to 1 underdog.

I wanted my fans and friends to know that my good friend Glyn Banks made two final tables at the WSOP Circuit event in Tunica, Mississippi this week.
Glyn Banks may be the best and most underrated tournament player that the general public may never have heard of. Believe me those professionals on the tournament circuit that have played against him. know how good he plays.
He took a 2nd place finish in the $500 no limit event and a 3rd place finish in the main event.

Smokefree Casinos - How about Drunk Free Casinos?

Casinos have been great about providing a smoke free environment. Well I am writing this to say that when a player drinks to much and is a mean and loud drunk, it should be the casinos duty to escort the individual politely out the door. He or she can come back when he or she sobers up. No matter how bad of decisions a drunk makes, the other players at the table should not have to put up with a mean or belligerent drunk. The drunks money is not worth the aggravation to me.
Just my two cents worth.

Winter is Coming

Today I checked all my vehicles to make sure the AntiFreeze will protect the coolant from freezing ...
I have an old van we se to go to Sam's Club and haul stuff around... It is a 95 Toyota Previa Turbo-Charged Mini-van ... it runs great but I found the coolant had almost no protection value to it. I flushed the coolant system and changed the oil ... Just a reminder ...
Also I am selling everything I own in Cincinnati as I intend to live in Las Vegas so the Toyota Van is for sale .. I have owned it for 6 or seven years and it runs great and has rear air and seats 7 ... It too is for sale ... $4500 Tell your friends :-)

was lucky as all get out too.
second, would you be kind to rate me as an average every day player? am i
good, fair, poor, bad. you saw me play for 5 hours. i value my opinion
very much.
third, i play a lot of hands for one reason, i am up and for a $5 bet i
can see the flop, i might make a great flop on a junk hand and make
money. i rarely see a turn if i do not have anything at all as you
noticed. the man who was a very good player next to you, and the man i
put out were exceptions. they raised with nothing a lot on the pre flop
so i called them a lot with $25.
fourth, on the hand that i beat you with my 10's. i thought you had two
over cards, the 2 on the river meant that you could not have had a
straight. you did not raise on the flop so i did not think you had a
set. the first hand we played against each other when you beat my 6
high straight with a 7 high straight you bet $150. you wanted me to call
you, and you knew i would with my straight, when you bet $300 i was 75%
sure you did not want me to call you. with high pair on the board and an
ace kicker, i thought i was ok. so you would have had to have had two
pair to beat me and i did not see that with the low cards on the board. i
hope this made sense.

1st 10's are not a high pair .... other than that, as a
professional I do not dwell on hands that I lose usually by the time I
wakeup next day I will not be able to remember them... This maintains my
sanity ...
I sort of remember the hand after you described it, however If I am
remembering this correctly I shot a strong 3 barrels ... semi
bluffing the turn for $200 and shooting a 3rd barrel of $300 at the pot.
Normally a long term profitable player would not be able to call
the third barrel river bet with 1 pair (NOT EVEN TOP PAIR / ACE
KICKER nor an overpair) when the board also could yield a
straight, a 1 liner to straight .... remember what can you beat?
You can not beat 2 pair, a set or a straight, nor AA KK QQ or JJ
.... I can and do easily play AA or a flopped set in the same exact
way. You won the pot so the result was positive, but I think I even said
or I thought to myself I can not remember "How can you call that
rive bet with that????"

I just came back to Cincinnati, Ohio after being in Las Vegas and out west
since April ... Now that I am back here is the list of things not to miss when
you get to Cincinnati....
White Castle Hamburgers ... I know some call these little burgers ... sliders
or gut bombs but I love them it is a weakness.
Skyline and Gold Star Chili parlors ... each has its own taste... Jan is a
Gold Star lover and I prefer Skyline.
LaRosa's Pizza a Cincinnati treat.
Montgomery Ribs ... these are so good Bob Hope used to do television ads for
them for free and he never ever did tv ads for anyone other than Texaco... "You
can trust your car to the man who wears the star."

I have a 2004 45' Travel Supreme Select ...
It uses a HydroHot system that had developed a leak, thanks to Travel Supreme's Warranty department and your service department repairs were covered under the warranty since the leak actually started before the 2 year warranty expired.
I had made an appointment for service at your Vehicle Systems manufacturing facility located in Lupton, Colorado.
I expected that it would take several days. Well Don and his technicians were fabulous and not only repaired the leak but found that the stir pump was not functioning and replaced that as well, not in 2 or 3 days but in less than 2 1/2 hours ...
They deserve an At-A-Boy ....
I would never own another RV that did not have one of your Diesel Hot Water/Heating system in it.

Our Trip back to Cincinnati

I left on Tuesday September 5th... As soon as we left we noticed that the
water pump in the motorcoach was not working properly. So I stopped at Camping
World in Henderson, Nv and purchased a new pump.
The Cadillac Escalade I tow behind the motor home uses a pump from a company called Remco to circulate the transmission fluid while I tow the vehicle... The pump has a pressure system which electronically monitors the pressure of the transmission fluid and squeals if the pressure in not up to specifications. The only cure is to start the Escalade and let it idle all the way while it is being towed. Yuck...
We made it to mid Utah by Wednesday and early in the
morning myself and Janice replaced the water pump. We had to unload the
underside storage, and I coached her but she did all the work because basically it is located in a spot so darn hard to get to for me, because the space is so tight. Midgets should train for RV mechanics positions and be paid extra for being small. ;-) Jan derserves an At-A-Boy because she had never did that kind of job before and it did not leak when she was done.
We were in route to have an appointment with Vehicle Systems Inc in Lupton, Colorado to have the diesel hot water heating system repaired by the manufacturer of the system. We got there late at night and the next morning at 7:45 they got us in and started working on it ... by 10:30 it was all done.. Man what great efficiency ... they were great.
I then called the company that made the transmission pump and asked if they could fix it if I stopped by Omaha Nebraska... they said if I got there early I could get in ... We drove all day got to Omaha by evening and stayed in a Walmart SuperStore overnight. At 8AM they got us in and replaced the punp, hoses and diverter valve and by 10AM we were on our way to Kansas City.
We met my friend Rick Garrison and played a little poker at Harrah's in North Kansas City, Mo ... He won and I had a small losing session ,,,
On Saturday morning we drove to St. Louis and stopped at Harrah's in St Louis, Mo and played some cards... I won ;-) a small win there and tomorrow we head for Cincinnati.

Poker is a beautiful game as there is never the right way and the wrong
way to play a hand.
In some games the correct play is always the correct play, but not poker.
In a live action game it is all about the target. When I set in a live action game I select certain targets and tailor each hand's play in relation to which target is currently in the hand.
Yesterday I played in a 2/5 NL no limit holdem game and I had in my sights a hyper-aggressive player to bring to the felt.
I was in the BB and found myself with AA, the hyper-aggressive target following 2 limpers raised to 7 times the BB $35. It folded to me and I decided to disguise the strength of my hand and give him some hang'in rope so I smooth called and 1 limper smooth called between us.. The flop was 9 5 2 rainbow perfect, I was first to act and I instantly checked, no acting here. The limper checked behind and the hyper-aggressive aggressive player bet $75, I took about 1 minute to raise to $175 ... the limper mucked and the target took about 30 seconds to announce that he re-raised me to $350 ... I had $1013 left behind and I said All-In when he asked how much I pushed my chips out, and spread them not saying a word and making the opponent count them visually. He called off his stack about the size of mine but not quite and the dealer delivered to bricks and his KK went into the muck face up after I rolled over my Aces...
Some would say I should have re-raised on the flop, but had I done that he would not have given me any action after the flop as I had been smooth calling all day his aggressiveness and this would have woke him up.
Let a players own aggression hurt him once and a while and maybe he will think twice the next time he thinks of trying to push you around like a lawn mower.

Venetian $550 Saturday Tournament

I played in a tournament today at the Venetian ... It has a very good
structure, in fact the best structure of any weekly tournament in Vegas
.... You get $10,000 in starting chips and 40 minute levels.
59 players participated and some very good players were in the
tournament.
I played well making it to 14th place, having shown down only 2 hands in
6 hours of play. I only had pocket 5's once and pocket 9's once.
I AK off in the 1st level raised to 150 from cutoff and won the 25 and 50
blinds.
I had 5h5c in the cutoff raised to 150 ... 3 over cards flopped and I
checked it down al the way thru the river and 4 clubs was on the board by
the river and my 5c won the pot.
I had AQo on the button and raise to 150 and won the blinds.
I had AK in late position an aggressive player in middle position open
raised to 150 ... i re-raised to 450 he smooth called ... the board
flopped 2 8 4 and the aggressive player bet 1000 and I instantly
re-raised tp 2500 and he folded ... My image firmly established.
I then went card dead until the 300/600 level with 50 dollar antes ...
the aggressive player previously mentioned opened for 600 and antoher
player smooth called the 600 ... I re-raised to 2500 with AsKs and
everyone folded ... image still in effect ... I had not made a move in
the last hour or so as i was really really card dead.
Blinds are now 400/800 with a 75 ante ... I was in the SB when it was
folded all the way to me ... I found two black 9's and I raised to 4000
the BB moved all-in for an the 4000 plus 5325 more and I just knew he was
full of crap and I called. He showed 8J off suit ... I knew it he
had junk!!! The flop came with a Qxxthe turn came a 10 and the
ribver 1 of the remaining 2 nines in the deck for a straight for the
BB... almost an 18000 dollar pot ... Bad Bad Runner Runner with the final
runner a 2 outer... That hurt...
I made it to 14th placed and had still never showed but 2 hands at the
river .... I
The blinds increased to 800/1600 with 200 antes 4 ... We were 2 tables 7
handed each ... It was 4400 per round and I had about 9c10c in late
position so I moved in for about 12000 and the SB woke up with JJ ... I
flopped an straight draw and a flush draw and missed on both ... Bye

Mother said there would be days like this...
Only 5 places were scheduled to be paid but when they got down to the
final table the players restructured the payout to pay 9 places... I like
that much better. In short fields under 100 I feel that the top 15%
need to be paid ...100-250 players should pay 20% and over 250 should pay
25% ... Casinos are you listening???

Old Man River Where the Fishes Live

Well guys even though I only lasted a short time in the main event I made
a little ESPN time singing my Old Man River to Greg Raymer on the main event.
ESPN used my singing on the fade out over the 2006 World Series of Poker Logo on
the way to commercial on the 9PM Tuesday August 22nd, 2006 show.

players and just got into the money (873rd) you got $10,616
Last year had 5619 entrants and if you beat 5018 players and just got
into the money (560th) you got $12,500
That's right last year you would have outlasted 2872 additional players
and this year you would have received less money for it!

This year if you beat 8703 players and finished in 170th spot you got
$47,006
Last year if you beat 5449 players and finished in 170th spot you got
$46,245
This year had an approximate 64% increase in the number of players...This
year the 170th spot share increased by less than 2% over last .
That's right you would have outlasted 3254 additional players. Those 3254
had contributed $32.540,000 in increased gross entry fees and you would
have made a measly $761 more.
When the tournament was down to the last $150 players there was

WSOP Update

Well as you can see I drew
Seat 4 on Table 36 starting day number 3 in the main event at the
WSOP.
Greg Raymer 2004 WSOP World Champion in the main event drew
seat number 3. He played fast and loose as usual running his stack up and down
from 10K to 14K down to 5K and back. see televison clip at http://Mark-Hanna.com/WSOP2006.mpg
The table was loose and even though I
initially had planned in my mind to sit back and wait for the biggest of hands I
had to make adjustments so that if and when I got a hand I could get paid
off.
I won a hand with pocket 7's and I gave up a few blinds. I won a pot
off of Greg Raymer when I had 34off in the small blind and after a flop of 733 I
check raised him and he folded.
A player in seat seven was in a lot of
pots, and had ran up his chips to a substantial stack, I found my self with JJ
under the gun and raised it to 375 (blinds were 50/100). He re-raised me to
about 1200 or so and after a while I showed him JJ's face up and folded before a
flop. Later this same guy had re-raised someone else preflop and at
showdown I saw he had re-raised with KJoff not much of a hand for a re-raise. I
then found my self in middle position with 88 and I open raised the pot to 375,
this player in seat seven again re-raised me to 900 total for an increase of 525
... thinking I saw him re-raise with KJoff I called ... The flop came 7c 8d Ac
and I wanted to protect my set of 8's against a flush draw and hopefully take
down the pot right there. I bet out 2000 leaving me with about 5000 left in
chips ... He was deep in chips and re-raised all-in . I thought about it
for what seemed an eternity and I could not give this loose goose credit for
hacing flopped a set of Aces ... Last year I laid KK down to an ultra-tight
player pre-flop when he beat me in the pot with an all-in re-raise before the
flop. I regretted my laydown last year pre-flop and I just felt it way more
likely that this player had Ace x, KK, QQ, JJ, 1010 or even 44 than AA in the
hole ... Well AA he did have and I made a very early exit.
Against some
players I could have gotten away from 2nd set, however this player played too
many hands with raises and re-raises before the flop in my view to fold 2nd set
on the flop when I had nearly half of my chips in the pot

Background Info:
David Carruthers, chief executive of online gaming company
BetOnSports PLC, was arrested at Dallas-Fort Worth Airport Monday while
transferring planes on his way down to Costa Rica, where the company has
operations facilities. Ten other people and three other companies were
indicted by the U.S. Justice Department.
At the time of Carruthers’ arrest, it was not clear what the charges
were, but later in the day, it was announced that he and the others were
charged with racketeering, conspiracy and fraud. In addition to
Carruthers, the founder of BetOnSports, Gary Stephen Kaplan, was charged
with twenty different felonies. The major charge against Kaplan is the
reported failure to pay federal excise taxes on $3.3 billion in wagers
from U.S. customers. The indictment is calling for the company and the
other defendants to fork over a total of $4.5 billion.
The firm’s stock, which is traded on the London Stock Exchange, plummeted
17.5 percent on the news. Other online gambling companies felt the
effects, too. PartyGaming shares fell almost 7 percent, 888 Holdings was
down 4 percent, and Sportingbet took more than a 12 percent hit.
BetOnSports has been slapped with a temporary restraining order,
preventing it from taking bets from U.S. customers. This will, in effect,
shutdown the company, as it is estimated that as much as 90 percent of
the bets placed on its site come from the States.

WSOP - Update

I apologize for not making an update sooner.
The day after I won my seat I played in another Super Satellite ... I had plenty of chips 4500 at 150/300 player 9s10s in the SB limping and blink convinced me to donk off all my chips
I played the hand So so bad, that the poker gods placed my in Poker Purgatory for over 2 weeks.. I have been so busy and I really feel as though the cards are beginning to cycle to a positive EV.. In 30 years of playing poker I have seen the cards come and the cards not come. The cycle happens and I think I will be on a really good upswing when the Main event starts next week.I have been playing live action mostly and doing A/Ok although not for really high stakes like so of these high rollers. WOW the money is really deep at the WSOP...
Sorry for not writing more often, but there is not enough time in the day ...
Congratulations to my friend Allen Kessler who made the final table in the WSOP $5000 stud event ...

I have been lax on writing to the blog. The WSOP is so busy. I won my seat into the main event in a $225 re-buy Super Satellite. It was the 1st one I played. I am going to play one of these every day and when I win the following ones I will win the 10,000 in cash... I hope to win 3 or more of these in the next 40+ days. You start with only 200 dollars in chips and the blinds start at 5 dollars and 10 dollars with 20 minute levels ...
I have been doing quite well in the $175 or $225 single table satellites ... you only get $1000 in chips ... I wish you only got 800 hundred ... I love playing short stack poker.
Live Action cash games are a joke to get in ... every time I tried the wait was hours for a seat ... WOW I give up.

Licensing an out of state vehicle in Nevada

Today I tried to license my Cadillac currently registered in Florida to a Nevada address.
What an ordeal... First you go to the DMV stand in line and are told you need a Smog Check.
You go down the street and find a Smog Check facility at Terrible Herbst ... ( he does everything )pay $30 and my 1990 Cadillac Coupe Deville which I have owned since new passes with flying colors.
Then you go back and stand in line again ,.. only to find you need to have the VIN validated and the remove your plates ...
I did that then stood in line again ... Then I had to get special permission from a supervisor to use a photocopy of the registration from Florida, then and another hangup... I need written proof of insurance ... my valid Geico card is no good.
It is 104 degrees here and now I am about fed up ... I go outside and while putting my license plates bak on a guy named Troy originally from Cincinnati recognized me from ESPN ... he too was making multiple trips to straighten out a motorcycle title. We talked about Cincinnati, property values in Vegas, and Poker ... He has a nice site called http://www.PickLogic.com it is about properly beating baseball and basketball ... I highly recommend you check it out if you bet baseball. I believe that Troy has it figured out.

Bellagio is infested with Donkeys on Saturday Night ... I was told by a new friend I met named Todd that Bellagio's live action is soft on the weekends. He was right...
Here is a donkey of a hand ... 2/5 NL ... I am in the BB and an player raised to 20 pre-flop in early position where he got 2 callers then another player in middle to late position moved all-in for $450 the pot only had $67 in it .. well everyone else folded until the original raiser who called $250 more all-in ... The mid-late all-in pusher had Qd 10d and the earlyraiser who called all in for $250 more had 8h 10h .... The 8h made an 8 high straight and he took down the pot ... Hee Haw Hee Haw
If I had only had good cards I could have racked up 8 racks, but I still made money with not a lot of premium starters ...

Well Binions is supposed to have a $5000 NL tournament today...
yesterday on Sunday at 4PM there was supposed to be a $200 rebuy
satellite. I showered and drove to Binions to find out since the
turnout was pathetic they pushed it to 6PM ... I left and chances are
they didn't get many at 6PM either since only 1 had signed up for the
satellite by 4PM.
I then find out Binions Las Vegas is no longer owned by Harrahs so
who do I blame???

Well I arrived in sunny Las Vegas on Friday morning, May 5th, 2006 ...
The WSOP Circuit event was being held at Caesar's and the Mirage
Poker Showdown was happening at the Mirage. What a trip getting to
Vegas, I was sort of exhausted from the events detailed in previous
posts and I had other business I wanted to handle so I elected to
hang out at the motorcoach. Well it has been 5 days in Sin City and I
have not set foot near a casino. So it is evident I am not a gambler,
just a poker player. That's good I guess as so many fall victim to
being in the action. Not me ... ;-)

Drove 12.7 hours today
| |
|
My motorcoach has a really advanced trip computer ... today I
actually drove 12.7 hours (sitting time does not count) made 663
miles from Denver, Colorado to Mesquite NV and got 7.6 mpg at an
average speed of 54.6 mph. I made 7.4 mpg from Denver to Utah ...
that is fantastic...
This is mountain driving climbing from 5000 ft through over 10000 ft
and back down to 2000 ft. The mileage is better than I have ever
seen it thanks to the BioPerformance Pills at http://Fuel-RX.com

Heading to Vegas

On Sunday April 30th, 2006, myself Jan and the the 3 dogs ( Charlie,
Katie and ChauChau ) left Cincinnati enroute to Las Vegas, driving
the motorcoach.
We made it to Kansas City, Kansas on Sunday night ...
The next day, we awoke in the parking lot of Harrah's and I got a
call from my office that the main line printer was not working. I
spent about 3 hours trouble shooting the problem using my rooftop
satellite internet connection. I finally determined that the serial
port array failed after over 15 years of service.. luckily I had
online spares which I could configure.
I was also having problems in the Escalade tow vehicles transmission
pumping system, so I spent time trouble shooting the electrical system.
On Monday I met with a friend Rick Garrison at Harrah's across the
river in Missouri. We had a dinner at the steakhouse and being near
Kansas City as you would expect they featured some really 1st quality
steaks, about 10 different menu items are different cuts of steak and
seafood combinations.
Rick and myself played some 2/5 NL ... I was playing 8 out of 10
hands and lost about $450 when my 2 flopped 4's and 5's were
counterfeited by runner runner QQ letting an over pair of pocker J''s
to river me. I chipped up and left a small winner.
The next day, we left but struggled trouble shooting the pump all the
way across Kansas. I stopped at an RV store and bought new ends for
the cable that goes between the motorcoach and the tow vehicle, and I
replaced the ends. That did not solve the problem.
We stayed in a Walmart in Hayes, Kansas, only to find out it was
still not open and was still under construction inside.
On Tuesday, we picked up a hydraulic sensor at NAPA in a small town
in Kansas. I replaced it under a shade tree at a roadside rest area
on I-70, but that was not the problem.
On Wednesday, I purchased a relay and some 10 gauge wire and
connectors from a RadioShack in western Kansas... In a Cummins engine
parking lot I wired up a relay system to supply higher voltage to the
hydraulic pump and sensor, why this should be necessary is puzzling
however it seems to have fixed the problem.
We made it to the west side of Denver, Colorado for the night. Wagon
trains have made better time. However I have been using the Bio
Performance pills (SEE http://Fuel-RX.com ) in the diesel fuel and I
have gotten 8.4 miles per gallon today through the rolling terrain of
western Kansas I-70 and climber to the mile high city. I have gotten
great mileage.

Seen you play several times on TV and I wanted to say your a
true gentleman to watch play, a class individual. Not too many love
having fun at what they do whether they are winning or loosing and people

I was hoping to ask you a few questions if you had the time to answer
them, if not, i totally understand. How did you get started
playing? I play in really low stakes right now, and I feel I'm a
decent player, I would think of myself of a stud specialist if i was to
pick my best game, then NL Holdem. Do you think it's easier
qualifing online? I've had some terrible beats on crap people stay
on here on the net. Like AA getting squashed by a 8-6 suited after
I raise all in. I've learned there is no good way to play
aces. Tried all ways.

People are most relaxed when they are having a good time, and relaxed
poker players are usually better poker players.
Doyle said, he has won more money with AK than AA and I am sure he is
correct ... Basically the problem is that in NL holdem
AA is still only 1 pair, granted the best 1 pair but still 1 pair. One of
the biggest leaks in most players games is over playing top pair, big
kicker.
AA is the mother of all top pair hands, but it is still only one pair.
Don't play big pots without big hands and 1 pair is not a big hand. Even
heads up pre-flop is dangerous in tournaments when the other player has
more chips than you.

How I Started Playing Poker: I was in high school and at that
time I worked with a bunch of guys older than me. I was in the carnival
business. Yes I was a teenage carnie. I ran a ferris wheel when I was 13
years old. On pay day, we either played poker or fed the illegal slot
machine in the backroom of the carnival ride company. The older guys were
winning in the beginning.

Poker Tournaments - Caesar's Indiana - Opens with Pitiful

Once again Harrah's proves "Harrah's can screw-up a steel ball in the middle of a sawdust pile." Management should be ashamed of itself. I interviewed a
security guard who told me he had been scheduled to work extra shifts because
they expected such a big turnout for their poker event. Then on Saturday, April
22nd, 2006 management told the security guard sorry, but he will not be needed. What a surprise ... turnout is pathetic. They had a $1000 + $60 entry fee event on Saturday and
could not even get 90 participants. They had a $500 + $50 event on Friday and could not get 250 participants. What is the main problem here? In my opinion as a
professional tournament poker player is Harrah's and/or Caesar's blatant greed. I called on Tuesday April 18th, 2006 to attempt to book
rooms and were told that it is "Thunder on the River" weekend in Louisville and
there was no block of rooms set aside for poker players and is not a poker player room rate. Rooms cost $169 weekdays and $189 on weekends and you
cannot get a room for Saturday night, so if you come on Thursday you will have to check out on Saturday morning. I was told they can rent all of the rooms with no problem so they are offering no deals. My better half plays slots, video poker mostly now days,
but a lot. She has a Seven Stars card from Harrah's. This is the highest card
they award, much higher than Diamond and we were told that less than 1% of
Harrah's clientele qualify for the Seven Stars card. It has her picture on it
for heavens sake. They told her that since it was a busy weekend that she would
have to pay for the room. Normal poker players would have to pay $169 weekdays
and $189 weekends, but they would only charge her $69 and $89 and no rooms were
available on Saturday night. The night of the $1000 + $60 event, so she would have to move out on Saturday morning. Thanks to the effort of Jack Effel he got the room
extended through Saturday night but not comped out like would be normal for a
Seven Stars card holder. Jack Effel understands, he gets it, someone in higher management does not. Thanks Jack your efforts were appreciated. You can not play, if there is no where to stay. I send this to you all as a news flash. I am leaving on
Sunday and so are at least 3 other professional regulars who travel and play many of the large professional events. I sent this news flash to the Cardplayer.com and The
Circuit internet radio show in hopes Scott would read it as news on the air. I post this so other players planning on attending in
the next week and for the $5000 buy-in event will not expect a big overlay on
their entry fee because of a big field. In my expert opinion the field will be small.
If they get 100 participants I will be surprised. You can not play if there is no where to stay. Harrahs needs to wake up and smell the coffee. Harrahs makes millions from poker players and the
players deserve better treatment. You can shear a sheep over and over, but you
can only skin it once. Harrahs needs to hire a competent player ensure that your
casinos take care of the poker players, only a player knows how it really is on the road playing these tournaments.

Friday at Louisville

I played in a $500 + 50 tournament with 230+
players ... I had moved well at the table ... But
if deuces were aces I could have been chip leader
.... in the 100/200 level on the last hand it was
folded to me on the button and I found 33 and
pushed all-in with 1300 … found JJ in BB… Jacks
had been golden on this table and bye bye Mark
I played 3 single tables and finished 9th QQ was
sucked out on ... 6th got down to 1300 in chips
and pushed in on button with 22 and found KK ...
and 3rd lost top pair to trip deuces ...
Tournament is messed up... Harrah's is so greedy
that they did not set aside a block of rooms for
poker players. A floor man actually walked around
prompting the dealers to reset the clock in the
middle of a hand if it goes off, don't wait until
the hand completes. I guess they are not making
money fast enough on the juice. What a joke..
If they do not get at least 250 players for
tomorrows $1000 + 60 event I will not even play
.... not enough overlay for my hard earned money.

Caesars Indiana Tournaments

Myself and Janice left 7:30 am Thursday Morning from Cincinnati to
Caesars Indiana ... I got up at 5:30 AM ... one of the slide outs
blew a fuse so I had to find and change that in the dark.
I played in the $300 event with over 400 players made it to the 100 /
200 blind level and after starting with 1500 chips I had ran them up
to 2500 chips before driftin back down to 1300 chips I saw the flop
and it came 10 7 4 and a guy whom I do not know but who everyone had
been talking about after the 1st level as having over 14000 chips bet
all-in .. I told him that I had a hand and that he missed with 2
overs and I knew that if I could dodge the 2 overs with 2 to come I
was getting 2:1 to call. So I called and he hit his K ... end of
tournament for me ...
I then played 4 sit and goes ... 2 of them I got me money all in
after the flop and was out ran ... one of them I blew out of and one
I chopped.
I am playing well and made no mistakes in my estimation all day ...

Computer Breakdown

Yesterday I spent 12 hours troubleshooting a computer breakdown. An
Xylogics AnnexIII terminal server I placed into service around 1989
died. Services to be held Sunday at his home in Louisville, Ky ... I
had paid $2500 for a spare server some time in the early 90's if my
memory is correct. I can get one now for less than a grand used on
eBay ... Lucky I had a spare because you cannot find these at your
local CompUSA or Circuit City.
A terminal server provides 64 serial ports and is connected to your
network through an tcp/ip connection for the geeks out there interested.

Busy, Busy and Foxwoods

I have been so very busy here in Cincinnati, that I totally did not follow
Foxwood's main event on the internet.
I usually use <a

I went there to check the chip counts would not load when I clicked on the links. So I went to <a

excellent coverage. They post a lot of photographs in the tournament blog. Jan has been playing a lot of online SNGs and the last few days she has been doing very well. I still haven't had time to watch the Nextel Cup Race on the Tivo. Later ..

$50 SNG --- Played tight aggressive early, picked up AK and hitflop well, chipped up, and held control of the table all tournament, whenI reached final 3 players I have 2/3 of the chips and heads up I had a 4to 1 chip lead...
Result I win the table

I have never played on-line serious for income... I just played enough to try and fund my satelliteplay for 10K WSOP or WPT events.
I am now trying to get myself properly setup to play SNGs on a daily make some real money basis.
I have a theory ... everyone plays Party because tournaments start sofast and so often... but if you have 16 web sites and you get rakeback.... save $1 per $50 SNG on fees, then I can just play 4 or moresites at a time instead of 4 or more Party tables at a time... This wayyour minddoes not run amok in negative terrorist thoughts ... likePartyPoker.com has it out for you...
I have a friend who play SNGs and gets back up to $2000 in rake on SNGsevery month.

I signed up as a FTP affiliate they would only give me 20% ...
RakeBreakis so big they get a better deal than the average Joe can possibly
get....and they give me 7% more than my affiliate program pays...
I had
RakeBreak try to transfer my account to them, but FullTiltPokerwould not do it
... I will say this publically "Full Tilt Pokeris foolish", I will only
play on their site for satellites tobig events that I am interested in. I will
not pay full rake there when Ican pay less rake elsewhere.
I could find a
way to get a new FTP account myself to take advantage ofthis, but that would be
a violation of their rules and terms of serviceand my reputation too valuable to
me. So I will SNG at the other sites for which I am a member and can get 20% -
35% of my rakeback....
BTW ... UltimateBet.com pays rakeback, but not for
multi tournament play or SNG play ... only live
action.

My answer is ...
Don't laugh ... I should never tell anyone this but the truth often hurts.....
When I run bad and we all do ... I force myself to play multi-table .10 cent / .25 cent NL ... or something close in this limit range ... I load up at 1/2 of the Maximum buy-in which is usually $10 ...
I then force myself to beat the game overall for about 500 hands or so.... Now the secret is I use one of the 16 sites I have a reload bonus onwhich is tied to number of hands played. So I play the low limits cheapand release a 10interested use the link https://www.rakebreak.com/index.php?AFF=105 I think the .10 cent / 25 cent NL game is as difficult to beat as any game ... The people can not be moved off of bottom pair for christ sake. You can't get them to release with a shotgun to their head. So you must learn to read hands well and you must DAMN WELL know that you are ahead. When you can beat those games, it will force yourself to beat the game overall for about 500 hands or so....
Now the secret is that I use one of the 16 sites I have a reload bonus on which is tied to number of hands played. So I play the low limits cheap and release a 100% reload bonus or something.

I received a email from a fan named Daniel with a question... I felt it was a good question ... Thanks Daniel and I posted the question and my response here I have a hard time finding good tournaments at any of the local po dunk casino's 'round my town. man, it seems like their blind level structures are all screwy vs. the amount of players/chips present in the tourney. for instance, i final tabled a local 25 r and a, though by the ft, the blinds were 30k/60k and the chips leader( not by much) must have only had 200k. i feel as if i can't win in these tourneys as they are such a blood bath, so i play most of my no limit online. what's your opinion of these tourneys? Answer... I try never to play in MTT having less than 250 people and the minimum time for levels at 30 minutes. I also closely examine the blind structure prior to playing and if it is double, double, double it means gamble, gamble, gamble .... I prefer to use my bankroll where I can have the biggest edge from my skill and patience. In high skill tournaments blinds should be Level SB BB 1 20 40 2 30 60 3 50 100 4 100 200 5 150 300 6 200 400 7 300 600 8 400 800 9 600 1,200 10 800 1,600 11 1,000 2,000 12 1,500 3,000 13 2,000 4,000 14 3,000 6,000 Remember local casinos running a 5 hour tournament will never have a great structure ... their goal is get people to show up for the tournament and then contribute rake at the live action tables. Tonight I signed up as an affiliate for Full Tilt Poker ... I might as well advertise for the sites I like. I am also considering making a solid effort to try my hand at multi-tabling on-line for serious business. I know that when a person is multi-tabling for 1000+ hands a day getting 20% of your rake back is important. I have a friend named Chris who multi-tables sit and go tournaments and he gets $1 back on a 5$ rake for each tournament he plays ... he showed me his rake return account on-line and for 1 month from 1 site he got back $768 ... that means he played 768 SNGs for $50 in a month. That is the equivalent of 3 more wins for the month. It was actually was only 2 weeks he played as it was December and he said he took 2 weeks off for Christmas. Now I have to see about getting my play covered.

Kings beat me

Playing a single table tournament and losing to pocket kings is nothing unusual, but this. We were down to 4 handed and on the bubble, I was chip leader and pushing everyone around. I was folded to on the button and pushed all-in. Having everyone covered I knew that I would have to run into a BIG HAND to be called. I would push with any 2 cards. I had 89off and was called and beat by pocket kings. I was left with an average stack... next hand I get pocket nines and first to act I'm all-in ... well pocket Kings again wack me and now I have 75 in chips left. Next hand A5 I push all-in and win ... Next hand I get Pocket Jacks and push only to run into Pocket Kings and good-bye for me. WOW I run good...

Paradise Poker Re-buy tournament I smooth called a raise from
WeaponX with AK off ... flop came K high ... I check called a
bet from WeaponX on the flop ... WeaponX pushed in on the turn and I new I
had him beat ... he turned over JJ with a gutshot straight draw the river
made his straight ... crippled I was
I waited several hands with 800 in chips and got all-in AK against AQ
.. great I had them dominated ... Q on the flop ... Game
